Pairs are where it's at! I wrote a little blog about that once before. Here it is again as a recap, & a list of pair sightings follows:
"Earlier this week I read 2 different emails from 2 different people at 2 different times of the day and both were about bulging, bursting eardrums. That's a fairly unusual thing. And I was forced to recognize that 2 is the magic number. Not 3. How did 3 ever get that reputation anyway?
A little while back I saw someone who was riding a bicycle stop and get off his bike so he could scrounge around in the gutter for a little while, looking for something. Later that day, in a different place, I saw somebody else doing the same thing. Holding a bike w/ one hand and digging around in the dirt in the gutter w/ the other hand. I kept my eyes peeled for the rest of the day for the 3rd scrounging bicycler because, you know, things are supposed to happen in threes. It makes them more important. But I didn't ever see another one.
A week or so after that I was swimming at the river near San Marcos & saw a man who was missing one leg. Later that day, in the park, I saw a dog who was missing one leg. The rest of the day I kept hoping to see something else missing a leg, but I never did. I realized at the time that it was stupid, but still kept thinking that if THREE of these things occurred then that would be something. Two just didn't cut the mustard.
But wait a minute- I'm no overachiever! Why are my standards so high? 2's not good enough for me?
If I want to get mystical about it 2's just a more appropriate number for me: I'm a twin, was born on the 11th. 3 can't beat that! And 2's more attainable. You have a shot at a real sense of achievement if you're only aiming for 2. My magic number has (almost) always been 1,042 (ever since that dream in Utah & the train ticket to Stonehenge). 1,042 is a great number but for a magic number it's damn inconvenient! Not only does it take a long time to reach, but by the time I actually get there I won't even notice the significance of the event because I will have lost track of which number I'm on long before then.
But 2! Why didn't I think of this before? Pairs are where it's at.
2 bulging eardrums in one day! Whaddaya know!" (5/29/08)
So the list begins...

2 people, 2 days in a row, talking about Klonopin (some anxiety, anti-seizure drug). One was a friend & one was some stranger passing me on the street, talking on a cell phone. Too many prescription meds, people! ~3/16/10
2 people (1 in a truck and 1 in a car) driving along with 1 arm hanging out of the window, feeling the breeze. Summer's almost here! ~5/11/10
